Double-walled transportable fuel tanks are essential in many industries, including oil and gas, mining, construction, and transportation.
These tanks are designed to safely and efficiently store petrol, diesel, oil or AdBlue from one location to another while minimising the risk of leaks or spills that could cause harm to the environment or personnel.
“RETRA Fluid Handling Systems stocks are a range of fully certified double-walled fuel and oil storage tanks ranging from our 1,000 litres right up to 70,000 litres,” said Saxon McEwen, RETRA Group key account manager.
The tanks are fully certified and compliant with Australian regulations (AS 1692-2006 – Steel tanks for flammable and combustible liquids and AS 1940-2017 – The storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids).
The double-walled design of RETRA’s range of tanks provides several significant benefits over single-walled tanks. Firstly, the secondary layer of protection provided by the outer wall helps to contain any spills or leaks that may occur from damage to the outer layer of the tank during transport. This prevents fuel from escaping and causing harm to the environment or personnel.
“The space between the two layers of the tank provides insulation, which helps maintain the fuel temperature inside the tank. This can be particularly important when transporting fuels that require specific temperatures for safe and efficient use, such as diesel or gasoline,” continued Saxon.
“Our double-walled transportable fuel tanks are available in a range of sizes and capacities, from small tanks that can be transported around to top-up equipment or larger tanks, which are generally left in a location to act as a fuel pitstop for equipment so that they don’t need to head back to a yard.”
RETRA’s tanks are made from steel and are designed to withstand the rigours of transportation and use in challenging environments.
One of the critical advantages of RETRA’s range of double-walled transportable fuel tanks is their portability.
“Our tanks can be easily moved from one location to another, allowing for efficient fuel transport in remote or hard-to-reach areas. This is particularly useful in industries such as mining or construction, where fuel is often needed in remote locations. Our tanks are certified for crane lifting, have four-way forklift pockets, and have tie-down points for easy and secure transport. Most of the tanks in our range can be stacked two high when full or three high when empty,” said Saxon.
Another essential advantage of double-walled transportable fuel tanks is their safety features. These tanks are designed to meet or exceed industry safety standards. They are equipped with features such as an internal baffle for stability when transporting the tank when full or partially full and a lockable hatch that houses all connections and equipment for security.
It is important to note that while double-walled transportable fuel tanks provide an extra layer of protection against spills and leaks, they should still be handled and transported carefully to minimise the risk of accidents. Proper training, safety protocols, and regular maintenance are essential to ensure these tanks’ safe and effective use.
“With our tanks, you can fuel up to three multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously, such as a generator, pumps and a compressor all at the same time. Plus, with RETRA’s extensive range of dispensing products, including our own Real Ezy Reels and pumps from Graco and Meclube, we can design a complete fuel dispensing solution,” said Saxon.
